AT A GLANCE
- Spend days exploring these laid-back islands by bike – returning to specially selected SLH boutique hotels for evenings of indulgence in between
- Highlights include cycling along St Ouen’s Bay
ST BRELADE, JERSEY
Start your Channel Island break as you mean to go on – in the comfort of a boutique bolthole by the shore. The Atlantic Hotel is set in six acres of private gardens overlooking the glimmering golden sands of St Ouen’s Bay, just a short drive from Jersey Airport.
After you’ve settled in, it’s time to get out and explore. At nine miles by five, Jersey might be the largest of the Channel Islands, but it’s compact enough to explore it all by bicycle. What better way to experience the sights, scents and sounds of Jersey’s abundant countryside and dreamy coastline?
South coast saunter: 20 miles return
Starting your day at The Atlantic Hotel – or from a cycle hire shop in nearby St Aubin – it won’t take you long to spot Route 1. This popular cycle trail stretches out along 10 miles of spectacular south coast. Meandering eastward along the traffic-free route, you’ll be spoiled for a choice of cafes offering the chance to stop, refuel and soak up the atmosphere. This is somewhere to take your time. So relax into the ride as you take in the sun-soaked south, with its beaches, charming harbour villages and panoramic ocean views.
From coast to countryside: 10-mile loop
Pedal your way to Route 1 from the Atlantic Hotel and wend your way north along spectacular St Ouen’s Bay, popular with surfers for its impressive swells. As you arrive in Les Mielles Nature Reserve, the National Trust Wetland Centre presents a perfect chance to refuel while spotting birds. It’s here that your inland adventure begins – Route 6 invites cyclists east and in-land to the parish of St Peter. The route reconnects to Route 1 and the coast again at St Aubin, where you can meander via St Brelade’s Bay back to the Atlantic Hotel. Refresh your legs with a swim in the indoor and outdoor pools before enjoying a well-deserved meal in their Ocean Restaurant.
